Morris Ross laid the foundation in 1950, gradually expanding across California. Rapid growth ensued in the 1980s, starting retail acquisitions in the San Francisco area and culminating in a public offering in 1985. From 1986 to 2000, the store count surged from 121 to 409. Presently, Ross boasts over 2,100 stores nationwide.

Ross Stores operates under two distinct brands: Ross Dress for Less (1,765 stores) and DD’s Discounts (347 stores), both offering a wide range of brand-name apparel, accessories, footwear, and home goods at discounts ranging from 20% to 70%.
